Top 4 Things to do in Dubrovnik, Croatia

Before we get into the top four things you need to do in Dubrovnik, Croatia, check out the travel diary we did of this beautiful city!

Number 1

In order to fully experience the gorgeous city of Dubrovnik, you need to see it from above. Since we were with Viking Cruises, we had the amazing opportunity to take a scenic bus tour up the hillside and look out at the vast sea and city views.

It’s breathtaking.

Like, holy moly, God is an awesome creator, kind of breathtaking.

When you see that bluest of blue sea crashing against the clay red rooftops, you feel like anything’s possible.

One slight warning before you take your hillside adventure… as you’re driving up the hill there will be an extreme drop-off to your right. Extreme. Joanie B. was the one sitting on the right side of the bus and she was looking straight down to water.

So if you’re afraid of heights, just be aware! Don’t let that discourage you from enjoying the view, though, because it’s like nothing else!

Number 2

Once you’ve taken in those stunning views, head back to the Dubrovnik city center. It’ll be pretty packed and overwhelming.

Breathe.

Walk downhill on the main street of Dubrovnik until you come to Restaurant Mimoza. The food is authentic, but that’s not what makes it awesome.

The restaurant is a combination of inside and outside dining with beautiful plants and some adorable turtles.

It’s a unique dining experience you can’t find anywhere else!

Number 3

After you finish your delicious meal, venture back uphill toward the city center and straight through the castle doors. It feels like you’re entering an episode of Game of Thrones and for good reason! Parts of GOT were actually filmed in Dubrovnik!

Once you’re “inside” the castle, you’ll walk down the marble streets and weave through the crowds of people grabbing their GOT and Star Wars merch (parts of the new Star Wars films were created in the city).

But the real adventure lies in the cute side streets. They’re marked by cobblestone staircases, tiny bars and coffeeshops and gas lanterns. It feels like you’re in a different world! Take some time to explore and get lost.

The Dubrovnik city center is very well contained, so you won’t get too lost!

Make sure to check out some of the shops, take in the sights and don’t forget to pet the kitties! But be careful, some of them aren’t fond of human interaction. Stay alert!

Number 4

The last thing you must do in Dubrovnik is walk along the coastline. Since the city center is so marvelously laid out, all you have to do is follow the main street around until you reach the water.

Since we visited the city in July, it was quite hot! But as soon as we turned the corner, the sea breeze hit us in the face with its pure and refreshing essence.

Ahhhh.

We both stood there for several minutes, just letting it sink in. And the view. The view was beautiful. People were swimming, hanging out on their boats and just walking around. So peaceful and relaxing. It truly felt like vacation.

We didn’t want to leave!

We’re sure you’ll feel the same way watching that calm, turquoise blue water and breathing in the fresh air. It feels like a dream, but you know it’s real. You just don’t want it to end.

Have you ever been to Dubrovnik? If you have, what was your favorite part?!
