Where to Eat in Metropolis, Illinois || El Toro Loco Mexican Restaurant

When we were in Metropolis, Illinois in February 2020 we ate at this amazing Mexican restaurant called El Toro Loco. When we came back in the summer of 2020 we knew we had to stop in again. We were so grateful when they decided to host us. Check out this video…

El Toro Loco is family owned by Jesus Martinez and his wife, Katie Eller. Even their daughter, Sierra, helps out back waiting tables. She’s only eleven, but is one of the best servers we’ve ever had!

In the short time El Toro Loco has been in Metropolis, it’s become a community staple. Ask any one in town where you should eat and El Toro Loco will be one of the first places they recommend.

You get amazing food and great service. Jesus, Katie, and their staff make you feel like family!

Of course the meal started with delicious chips and salsa! El Toro Loco’s salsa is unbelievably fresh with just a hint of spice. We added a side of their delicious queso blanco.

Creamy. A little spicy. Delicious!

Joanie B. wanted something a little spicy with her favorite meat, steak!

Most things on the El Toro Loco menu come with steak, shrimp, AND chicken, which is insane. But Katie told Joanie B. she could go with the fajitas, do steak only, and switch out the sliced green peppers for sliced jalapeños. So that’s exactly what she did.

It was so, so good! If you decide to do this when you visit El Toro Loco just know that it’s quite spicy, and make sure you tell them Joanie B. inspired you :)

Jenni B. knew what she was going to order before she even walked through the door. It’s the same thing she ordered back in February.

Chuy’s Burrito. Named for owner, Jesus.

It has steak, chicken, and shrimp. It’s filled with rice and beans. And it’s smothered in burrito sauce, queso, and salsa verde.

Y’all, it’s out of this world delicious!

No doubt the best burrito we’ve ever eaten.

To top it all off, it’s huge and still affordable!

This is one of those places that if we lived in Metropolis or anywhere near Metropolis, we’d be visiting weekly. Everything is so fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is that local feeling you expect.

Thank you so much to Katie and Jesus for allowing us to eat at your incredible restaurant. It was delicious as always!
