We took the ultimate roadtrip from up the center of the United States, and had the chance to stop in Wisconsin for the FIRST TIME EVER! We stayed in Lake Mills at the stunning Fargo Mansion Inn. Check out the video before reading on…
THE HISTORY
Tom and his partner, Barry, have owned the Fargo Mansion Inn for over thirty years. After a full gut renovation to restore the Queen Anne style home to its original glory, it opened to the public and has been in full operation ever since. They have had thousands upon thousands of guests through these doors ever since, and it’s no surprise to us!
The Mansion opened before Wisconsin had a proper bureau for bed and breakfasts. So, naturally Tom and Barry took charge and helped create what’s now known as the Wisconsin Bed and Breakfast Association.
And, if you fall in love with Fargo Mansion (just like we did), you can even have your wedding there!

THE INN
The Fargo Mansion is a beautiful Queen Anne style house with four guest rooms on the second floor.
On the first floor you’ll find a sitting area, formal dining room, and the library (AKA the cocktail station). There are also some gorgeous antiques to peruse like Steiff bears and carnival glass. The most incredible part is that everything is spotless! Not a speck of dust on anything.
The four guest rooms on the second floor all have HD TVs, luxurious beds, and bathrooms. You can’t go wrong with any of the four that you choose.
OUR ROOM
We had the EJ Fargo room, which is considered the honeymoon suite of the mansion. It’s the biggest of the four rooms.
When you walk in, the centerpiece of the room is a small sitting area surrounding a fireplace that keeps the room nice and cozy. Just beside the sitting area is a desk where you can get some work done, because the mansion is equipped with high-speed Wifi.
The queen size bed has the best linens, and you just melt into it. The best feeling!
The EJ Fargo room also has porch, with a gorgeous view of the Lake Mills town street. Since we came in winter, it was pretty chilly, but still a great place to watch the sunset.
Everything is so luxurious, clean, and perfect decorated. But where’s the bathroom? You’ll find it hidden behind a bookcase. Pretty cool, right? Plus, the marble finishes make you feel like royalty.
BREAKFAST
Innkeeper Tom makes breakfast fresh every morning, so you won’t get the exact same meal we did. However, we guarantee whatever is served will be spectacular.
We started with some cranberry juice, apple cinnamon bread, and an out of this world yogurt parfait. Neither of us are yogurt people, but Tom took some yummy strawberry yogurt and topped it with fresh berries, granola, and honey. It was amazing. Highly recommend!
Our main meal was a freshly made hashbrown casserole. Holy moly. All we can say is that it was so delicious, we snagged the recipe!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Here are our final thoughts… the Fargo Mansion is amazing. If you’re looking for a luxurious B+B experience with an innkeeper who knows how to make you feel at home, comfortable, and like royalty, then you’re in the right place. You can tell this place has been running steadily for over thirty years. They’ve gotten everything down to a science and neither of us can find a fault in the amazing Fargo Mansion Inn.
