freight house || A Top Chef Owned Restaurant || Paducah, Kentucky
freight house is a Top Chef owned restaurant in Paducah, Kentucky. Before we talk about all of the amazing food we ate at freight house, check out the video we did for them…
As part of our incredible ten day, six state, five B+B road trip extraordinaire, we stopped in Paducah, Kentucky to indulge in some deliciousness. We found that and so much more at freight house.
Chef Sara Bradley started the restaurant with the mission of creating delicious food from farm fresh ingredients. She says that food is best enjoyed in season, and we have to agree!
She operates the restaurant with the help of her mom, Bev, and her amazing staff.
Sara actually participated in season 16 of Top Chef and landed herself in the top two! It’s no surprise when you see the finesse and creativity of her dishes.
For our first course, we had three different dishes.
First, an avocado salad with crab, arugula, pickled onion, and a green goddess style dressing. If you love avocado, get this! It was so perfect ripe and delicious. And that green popped out when it hit the table.
Second, our favorite, delicious buffalo cauliflower with shaved celery and pickled onions. This was beyond incredible. Neither of us are cauliflower fan girls, but we’d eat this over and over again.
Third, we got our first experience with a scotch egg. freight house served it with white beans and pepper jelly. The egg was yummy and the white beans were a nice base, but the real star was that pepper jelly! If they ever put that stuff in a jar, get yourself some. Stock your shelves! It was incredible.
We had two yummy main courses, and we had to share them because they were both amazing!
First was a play on shrimp and grits with succulent Gulf shrimp and pimento cheese grits from the oldest mill in Kentucky. To say this was good would be an understatement. I’m just not sure there’s an adjective that does it justice.
Our second entrée was a beautiful silver carp served with caramelized onion vichyssoise, brown butter roasted potatoes, and french onion croutons. Again, this was delicious. We’ve never had silver carp, and 10/10 would eat it again. The caramelized onion vichyssoise added a beautiful layer of flavor. The brown butter roasted potatoes were so toasty, crispy and delicious.
Then it was dessert time.
Our favorite time.
Yummy in our tummy time.
We didn’t exactly share this time, because Jenni took hold of the chocolate cheesecake and didn’t let go. It was perfectly thick and chocolatey.
Joanie enjoyed the banana’s foster bread with rum sauce and candied bacon. Yes, it was as yummy as it sounds. Not too sweet, but the perfect dessert!
A very special thank you to Sara and everyone at freight house for allowing us to come in and feature your delicious cuisine. We can’t wait to come back to Paducah in July and enjoy your beautiful industrial atmosphere and one-of-a-kind food again.
