Where to Stay in Amish Country || The Alden House Bed and Breakfast in Lititz, Pennsylvania (Lancaster County)
This summer we took an adventure to a place we’ve wanted to visit for years… Amish Country!
Despite what movies will have you think, the area dubbed as Amish Country in Pennsylvania is quite extensive. So with our little Amish knowledge given to us by author Beverly Lewis, we decided on Lancaster County and the tiny town of Lititz.
That’s where we found the stunning Alden House Bed and Breakfast. Check out this video…
The Alden House is an 1850 federal style house located on Main Street in downtown Lititz. You can watch the action of the main drag while you’re sitting on the porch with your breakfast. It’s been owned by John and Lynndell Eccleston since 2007 and even though they don’t live on property, they do everything they can to make the Inn feel like home.
Speaking of breakfast… while you’re at Alden House you’ll enjoy their signature five course breakfast. It’s complete with fresh fruit, a yummy entree (like baked French toast), a breakfast meat for some heartiness (like bacon), and absolutely delicious breakfast pastries. Our favorites were the chocolate chip banana bread and chocolate zucchini bread.
You’ll have something different every morning and it’s guaranteed to be delicious.
If you’re hungry in between meals, owners John and Lynndell hook you up with yummy snacks and drinks available 24/7. There’s also a refrigerator and microwave for guest use.
Alden House has a total of six rooms in the main house plus the Carriage House located out back.
All of the rooms are equipped with high-speed Wifi, a flat screen TV, DVD player, and a private bathroom. The Carriage House is like an apartment, so it’s perfect for families. The Inn itself can be rented out for larger events or get-togethers.
We stayed in the Lilac and Lace Suite on the second floor. It’s a two room suite with a bathroom in between and access to the second floor porch.
The main room has a beautiful four-poster Queen size bed with a girly lace canopy. But the first thing we noticed when we walked in was the amazing bay window letting in all of that stunning natural light.
Walking through the bathroom you’ll find the second part of the Lilac and Lace Suite. It has a day bed and two Queen Anne chairs plus a TV and DVD player just like in the main room.
This suite is ideal for larger parties or families.
The Alden House was the perfect spot for our Amish Country adventure. It’s located within walking distance to everything in Lititz and just a short drive from some of the major spots in Lancaster County.
It’s also just a forty-minute drive to Hersheypark, which we took full advantage of.
Thank you, thank you to John and Lynndell for allowing us to stay with you. We’ll definitely be knocking on your door when we’re back in town.
