Cool Travel Gadgets You Should Pick Up

As travel storytellers, we keep a lot of things in our travel bags at all times. Of course we have the cameras, the flash, hard drives, a laptop, and all of the usual photography and videography tools. However, there are a few things we throw in that tend to be a ‘just in case’ or ‘kind of nice to have’ sort of things.

That’s what we’re sharing with you today!

Here’s an old carry-on essentials video we did before our Rhine Getaway Viking River Cruise. We’ll be filming a new one soon, so subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss it!

Travel Wifi Portable Hot Spot

When we traveled abroad for the first time we were hit hard with the reality of not having an international phone plan. We found ourselves reaching for our phone to send a text, but quickly putting it down because we didn’t want to pay the extra charges. We also found ourselves wanting to share the beauty around us with our followers, but being unable to because Wifi wasn’t exactly in endless supply.

First world problems, we know. However, we know we’re not the only ones who go through this while traveling.

That’s why we were thrilled to partner with Travel Wifi!

It’s an awesome iPhone size hotspot that gives you 24/7 access to high-speed Internet whenever you’re in one of Travel Wifi’s 130+ coverage locations.

Travel Wifi gives you the option to buy or rent your device and setting up your Wifi package is easy. You pay-as-you-go through the Sapphire app, so you never pay for more Wifi than you need.

With its slim profile, it slides in anywhere, which makes it perfect for our carry-on only travel philosophy. The bright colors also ensure it never gets lost in the great abyss that is our tech bag.

You can get 12hrs off of one charge and connect up to five different devices to your trusty Teppy. However, we found that it works best when you have 2-3 smartphones connected or one laptop. Since we use a lot of Internet for our laptop activities, it sucks up a lot of juice. But it’s the perfect companion for all of your domestic and international travel needs.

Shure Mini iPhone Mic

The Shure MV88 is a tiny powerhouse of a mic that plugs right into your iPhone’s lightening port. It connects to your phone via the Shure MOTIV app and records some crispy audio perfect for on-the-go voiceovers.

We’re notorious for using our iPhones for our video voiceovers, and this little guy makes us feel more professional and gives us more freedom when it comes to capturing great audio. It’s definitely the tiniest condenser microphone we’ve ever used!

We picked it up at B&H Photo & Video’s New York store in 2016, but you can order it from Best Buy for around $150. It has been a great investment for us, and small enough to make traveling with it a breeze.

Wacom Tablet

We were sent the small Wacom Intuos Pro tablet a few months ago, and we’re in love! We had a previous generation of Wacom’s graphics tablets, but the Intuos Pro is, as expected, even better!

Since we’re not traditional visual artists, we use the tablet mostly for Photoshop editing or creating titles for videos. Just those things that need a little more attention than usual.

It comes in three different sizes, and the small has been perfect for us! It’s easy to set up, charge, and use. Plus, the holy grail feature for us is that it can be used both wired and wireless! This makes it amazing for travel, because you don’t have to be all tangled up in cords, but when it dies you can still keep trekking along.

Since this is a bulkier item compared to the other ones on this list, it doesn’t always make it into our bag. It depends where we’re going, how much we’re packing, and how important our Wacom will be on the journey. So usually it only makes it when we’re traveling via car in the US. However, it’s still a handy tool to have when you work with digital media!

Sudio Tolv True Wireless Earbuds

It’s no surprise that these beauties made the list. We’ve done an entire post on them and they’ve made it into a lot of our social posts.

They’re just so good!

Sudio gifted each of us a pair of their Tolv True Wireless Earbuds and they’re amazing! They’re size is perfect for travel. The true wireless design makes them feel modern and way more convenient than our wired earbuds. They also have over 24 hours of battery life between the buds and the case. Oh, and did we mention they’re super cute?

The sound quality is well-balanced and the little squishy ends makes them more comfortable to wear. They also stay put in your ears when you find the right size end-piece for your ear.

Did we mention they’re also pretty affordable? And we can get you 15% off when you use the code JJ15 at checkout.

myCharge Portable Charger

This is a snazzy little gadget we were sent about a month ago. It’s called the myCharge Hub Turbo 10K.

Since we travel with technology, we’re always carrying portable chargers out the wazoo. That means cords to charge our devices, cords to charge our external charger, and cords, cords, and more cords! This device has changed that.

To charge the Hub Turbo, you plug it into the wall! No cords to worry about AT ALL!

To charge your iPhone or USB-C device, you use the cord that’s attached to the Hub Turbo. NO CORDS!

myCharge also includes a standard USB port so if you have advice that’s not USB-C or lightening, you can still charge it with your Hub Turbo.

You can use all three methods of charging to juice up three devices at once. Or just charge one device more than once (we’ve gotten two full charges for our iPhone 11 Plus Max). The Hub Turbo has an output of 18W and can charge up to 75% faster than other external chargers.

It’s such a remarkable little device that comes at an affordable price and has been a game-changer to our tech kit! Highly recommend for travel and everyday use!
